From Ford to Fermentation: A Monroe Landmark Reimagined

History meets craft in downtown Monroe. This former Ford factory and showroom has been revitalized by The Eulalia Group and reborn as Grizzle Beer, honoring the past while creating something entirely new.

Then: A Hub of Early Innovation

In the early 1900s, the J.L. McGarity Ford Building stood at the center of progress in Monroe, Georgia—a place where early automobiles rolled in and out, crowds gathered, and the city’s relationship with transportation took shape.

Historic photos from the 1920s show the building in its original glory, with crowds packed outside for special Ford exhibits and “free talking pictures”—a novelty of the era. Inside, rows of Model Ts filled the expansive space, framed by exposed steel trusses and high ceilings designed for function over flair. It was busy, loud, and built to last.

The In-Between: Breathing New Life into Old Walls

The renovation process revealed just how solid that original craftsmanship was. The building was stripped back to its essentials—brick, steel, and open space—while modern systems were carefully integrated behind the scenes. Every step balanced preservation with possibility, keeping the historic character intact while preparing the space for its next chapter.

Now: Grizzle Beer

Today, the exterior feels both familiar and brand new. The restored brick façade, large windows, and central entrance echo the original design, while warm wood, clean lines, and outdoor seating invite the community in. Inside, the once-industrial interior now hums with a different kind of energy—one built around craft beer, conversation, and connection.

The transformation of the J.L. McGarity Ford Building into Grizzle Beer is more than a renovation—it’s a continuation of Monroe’s story. From cars to craft beer, this space has always been about bringing people together. Now, it just comes with a pint in hand.
